Pirates Sign DL Thomas

WORCESTER, MA - The Massachusetts Pirates have signed veteran defensive lineman Jhaustin Thomas. During his professional career Thomas has signed contracts with six teams including four in the National Football League.
Most recently, the 6'6", 280 lb. second team All-Big 12 selection from Iowa State, was on the practice squad of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League in 2021.
Thomas had signed with the Toronto Argonauts in 2019 and was injured in the first preseason game. He was subsequently released and then joined Toronto's practice squad. Thomas was activated on August 16 of that season and made his first professional start against Edmonton. Thomas went on to play in 11 games making five starts. He finished the year with 14 tackles with one sack. He remained with the Argonauts until the end of July in 2021.
A native of Atlanta, GA, Thomas signed as an undrafted free agent in 2017 with the Indianapolis Colts and played in four preseason games before his release. After spending a short time on the Cleveland Browns practice squad, he signed with the Oakland Raiders and then with the Denver Broncos practice squad for the rest of the season. He remained property of the Broncos until September 30 of 2018.
Thomas played two seasons at Iowa State where he appeared in 20 games making six starts in 2016. That year he led the team with 9.5 tackles for a loss and six quarterback hurries. He was second on the team with three sacks.
He finished his career with the Cyclones making 38 tackles including 12 for a loss with four sacks. He also defended one pass and had one interception.
Thomas also played two seasons at Trinity Valley Community College where he was an NJCCA First Team All-American in his sophomore year of 2013.
