Pirates Draft Three on First Night of 2013 MLB Draft
June 6, 2013 - New York-Penn League (NYPL)
Jamestown Jammers News Release
Selected at 9th overall Austin Meadows is a High School Outfielder from Loganville, Georgia. On the 2013 season, Meadows hit .535 with 14 doubles, 1 triple, 4 HRs, and 28 RBI. With Meadows the Pirates get what is considered to be one of the premier high school bats in this year's draft. Austin is a premium talent, which could allow for him to reach Jamestown this season, and roam the outfield as he starts his journey to Pittsburgh.
Selected at 14th overall Reese McGuire, is a High School Catcher from Kent, Washington. On the 2013 season, McGuire hit .436 with 13 doubles, three triples, four home runs and 20 RBI this year at Kentwood High School. McGuire was rated by Baseball America as the second-best defensive player among high school players. Reese has been widely rated at the best High School Catcher available which could allow for him to arrive in Jamestown this season much like Meadows.
Blake Taylor Taken by Pirates in 2nd Round
With the 51st pick of the Major League Baseball Draft the Pittsburgh Pirates selected Blake Taylor out of Dana Hills High School in California. On the 2013 season, Taylor went 2-3 with a 2.57 ERA in 49 IP. Taylor also held opponents to a .222 BAA with 59 K's. It would be a real surprise to see Taylor suit up for the Jammers this season, however could very well be a player to watch in Jamestown next season.
