Portland Pirates News Release
Providence, RI - The Portland Pirates and Providence Bruins will meet for the second time in 5 days as they face off at the Dunkin' Donuts Center in Providence. Puck drop is set for 3 PM as the Pirates look to re-tie the Bruins for the Atlantic Division lead.
The Pirates are coming off 2-1 shootout defeat at the hands of the Worcester Sharks, managing to earn a point at home in their final clash with the Sharks in Portland. Phil Lane scored the lone Pirates goal and goaltender Chad Johnson, in his first starts since returning from injury, stopped 31 of 32 shots in the defeat. The Pirates were unable to score in the shootout, snapping a 6 game undefeated streak in extra time. Portland put 38 shots on Worcester goaltender Harri Sateri, who stopped 37, including 13 of 14 in the second period.
Providence also fell by a 2-1 margin in a shootout to the Springfield Falcons on Saturday night. Michael Hutchinson stopped 24 of 25 shots for the Bruins as Jordan Caron scored Providence's only goal. Providence was held scoreless in the shootout as Sean Collins and Jonathan Audy-Marchessault scored for the Falcons.
This is the 9th time the Pirates and Bruins have faced off this year, with Providence holding a 4-3-0-1 advantage. Portland defeated Providence by a 6-3 score on Tuesday in Portland at the Cumberland County Civic Center, with Chris Brown and Jordan Martinook each scoring twice. Pirates rookie goaltender Louis Domingue, who was sent to Gwinnett yesterday, stopped 32 of 35 shots for his first AHL win in his first AHL start.
