Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers News Release
Wilkes-Barre, PA - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers are pleased to announce that 2003 starting quarterback Chris Boden has been signed by the New York Dragons of the parent Arena Football League for the 2004 season. The signing reunites Boden with receiver Cosmo DeMatteo, who inked a deal with the Dragons two weeks ago.
"I don't think anyone was surprised to see Chris get this chance," said Pioneers President/GM Dave Berryman. "Hopefully, he'll have a solid camp in New York and secure a roster spot."
Boden started at quarterback in all 16 games for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in 2003. He completed 323 of 568 passes for 3,614 yards and 67 touchdowns. He also recorded eight rushing TDs.
"I'm going to miss playing in front of the best fans in the af2," said Boden. "I'm excited about the chance to play in New York and being reunited with Cos."
Prior to joining Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Boden was the starting QB for the now-defunct New Haven Ninjas of af2. In eight games with the Ninjas, he completed 149 of 272 passes for 1,711 yards and 37 touchdowns. Before being assigned to New Haven, he served as a backup for the AFL's Indiana Firebirds and New Jersey (now Las Vegas) Gladiators.
Aside from Boden and DeMatteo, other current or former Pioneers who have signed with AFL teams include Nate Bandy (Orlando) and Tim Argiriadi (New Orleans).
Pioneers season ticket for 2004 are now available for sale to the general public. Anyone interested in purchasing a season ticket package may call the team's ticketing department at (570) 270-5811 or (570) 270-3848. Season tickets for 2004 are available for as little as $40.00.
