Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers News Release

Wilkes-Barre, PA- The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers will honoring local football legends Charlie Wysocki and Bob Tucker this week when they take on the role as honorary captains for this game.

Bob Tucker attended Hazleton High School and continued his football career at Bloomsburg University. As a Husky, Tucker was named to the Pennsylvania State Conference First Team three times as well as setting nine school receiving records. His senior year, Tucker caught 77 passes for 1,325 yards and 13 touchdowns. As a Tight End, Tucker made his way to the NFL's New York Giants and later the Minnesota Vikings. He competed in 152 games with 422 receptions for 5,421 yards and 27 touchdowns. He was among the leagues leaders several years in receptions and was named to the All-NFL Team in 1972.

Charlie Wysocki was an All-State football player and wrestler for Meyers High School. He later played football collegiately at the University of Maryland where he was said to be a Heisman Trophy caliber running back. Wysocki was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, which ended his dreams of pursuing an NFL career. The severity of Wysocki's disorder is the worse case most doctors have seen. He battled with his disorder for 20 years, never giving up and never losing hope. For the past four years, Wysocki has been in his most successful recovery period. He has since become a tireless advocate for mental health.

"It is indeed an honor to have both of these men representing the Pioneers as honorary captains at this week's game," said GM/President Dave Berryman of Tucker and Wysocki.

The Pioneers host the Albany Conquest this Saturday, July 23rd at 7:30 PM in the Wachovia Arena. This will be the Pioneers' first home game since June 11th. Anyone interested in purchasing Pioneers' tickets should contact the team's ticket sales office at either (570) 270-5811 or (570) 270-5813. Tickets can also be purchased at the Wachovia Arena box office or online at Ticketmaster.com.
