Pioneers Explode to Victory 21-7
The Pioneers began the onslaught in the second when Justin Lacy (Longwood) was hit by a pitch and stole a base. Aaron Hopper (Marietta) reached on first of the consecutive errors by the shortstop, which resulted in the first two runs of the night.
Watertown would rally back fourth inning to take the lead but not for long as Pioneers offense erupted for seven runs. Hopper would start the inning off when he laced a double. Logan Uxa (Arkansas State) walked. Both runners advanced on a passed ball. Keller would hit a sacrifice fly to bring in the first run. Pat Hyde (Northern Kentucky) then crushed a homerun to left. Sal Pezzino (High Point), Ryan Normoyle (Washington) and Ty Yesensky (Old Dominion) all singled. David Bishop (Mississippi State) singled to bring in fourth run of the inning. With a single from Hopper the Pioneers add two more runs to the inning.
Watertown clawed their way back into the contest with three runs in the seventh. But the Pioneers would erupt in the seventh and eight inning scoring 12 runs. The seventh inning would be capped off by a two run double from Lacy. Elmira would end their scoring in the eight inning as the Pioneers would score seven runs highlighted by Hyde connecting for his second two run homerun of the night.
Tonight the Pioneers finish their two game series against Watertown at 7:05. Fans tonight is "Lucky Fan" giveaways, which include an HD TV, a DVD player, a digital camcorder, and more. Fans can also enjoy the pregame Party in the Park Concert with Papa and Mama Root.
