Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers News Release

(Wilkes-Barre, PA) The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers are pleased to announce that Wide Receiver/Kick Return Specialist Jim Jones will return to lead the Pioneers in 2007!

Jones (6'2, 210) WR/LB/KR scored 16 TD's (14 rec, 2 rush) and 1,875 all-purpose yards in 14 games in 2006 before being named the American Conference First-Team Specialist. After joining the Pioneers late in the '06 season Jones saw limited action due to injury. During his AF2 career with Cincinnati ('03), Albany ('03-'04, '06), and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton ('06), he has amassed 2,244 yards and 4 TD's on 99 kick returns, hauled in 88 catches for 1,241 yards and 27 TD's, and ran 11 times for 39 yards and 4 TD's. On defense Jones has played linebacker and defensive back recording 70 tackles, 2 int's, 7 pbrup, 4 forced fumbles, 4 fumble recoveries, and 1 sack.

The fourth year pro played 3 collegiate seasons at Widener University and finished as the Pioneers all-time record holder for td's (66), points (400), and all-purpose yards (5,944), all of which were previously held by Billy "White Shoes" Johnson. Jones was twice a first team Division III All-American and holds over 30 school records at Widener. He was one of three finalists for the 2001 Melberger Award (player of year) and was a member of 2001 Team USA, which plays in Mexico annually. His career totals tally 215 catches for 4,395 yards and 41 TD's, 107 rushes for 774 yards and 21 TD's, returned punts for 736 yards and 3 TD's, and threw a TD. He led Widener to back to back Middle Atlantic Conference Championships and tallied a 30-7 career record.

Following Jones' successes at Widener he singed a free-agent contract and attended training camp with the Cincinnati Bengal's in 2002.

"I am extremely excited to be a part of the Pioneer family again," said Jones. "We have an opportunity to do some great things this season on and off the field. I look forward to bringing a championship to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and am glad to be playing in a football state like PA."

"Jim Jones has everything I look for in a receiver; size, speed, toughness, and the will to win. He is a guy that we targeted as key to our success in 2007. He was tearing it up last year and when he got hurt it took the wind out of our sails. I wouldn't trade him for another receiver in the af2," stated Coach Rich Ingold.

The Pioneers open their season on March 31st at home against the Manchester Wolves at the Wachovia Arena.
