Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers News Release
Wilkes-Barre, PA - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers and head coach Rich Ingold are excited to announce that they have been assigned three standout players to their 2008 roster.
Preston Brown, 6'4 232 lbs, was a wide receiver from Tulane University. Preston earned Third Team All-Conference USA honors at receiver. Preston was a two year starter for the Green Wave and led Tulane with 47 catches, 720 receiving yards and six touchdowns his junior year. Brown also earned his stripes as one of the better special teams players in Conference USA. Coach Ingold was keyed up about the possibilities of the big play receiver, "Preston's a big, rangy, receiver that will cause a lot of match up problems in the af2 because of his size."
Preston's brother Melik Brown, 6'2 270 lbs, was also assigned. Melik played four years at North Carolina University at both outside linebacker and defensive end. Brown was a disruptive force for the Tar Heels recording two safeties his senior year. Coach Ingold is excited about his pass rushing potential, "Malik is an edge pass rusher that will be causing problems for opposing quarterbacks."
Big 6'-5 310 lbs Hofstra OL/DL Jarrod Verge was assigned to the Pioneers as well after his athletic ability impressed Coach Ingold at a tryout for the Philadelphia Soul. " Jarrod is a big strong tough offensive lineman, who has brought on rave reviews from everybody that has seen him work out."
