Pink in the Rink Slated for February 12
February 3, 2011 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Dayton Gems News Release
DAYTON, OH - The Dayton Gems have announced that their home game on Saturday, Feb. 12, will be the team's Pink in the Rink night.
Gems players will be wearing pink jerseys in an effort to raise breast cancer awareness. After the game, all the jerseys will be auctioned off to raise money for The Noble Circle Project of Dayton and the Women's Wellness Fund at the Kettering Medical Center.
The Noble Circle Project provides information about healing alternatives for women with cancer and offers healing retreats and programs. The Women's Wellness Fund makes it possible for women in our community who lack the monetary funds for medical treatment to receive mammograms, breast ultrasounds, prostheses and prosthetic apparel.
The first 500 fans in attendance will receive pink thunder sticks thanks to Systemax and Microsoft Windows 7.
Some of the Dayton Gems players have family members who have had breast cancer and survived. At daytongems.com, the Gems have posted a video of CHL All-Star goaltender Jeff Jakaitis talking about his mother's battle with cancer.
"Through a large part in advancements in treatment and technology, she is near a full recovery and has been cancer free for nearly three years," said Jakaitis.
To see how you can raise money for this cause or find out more about our Pink in the Rink ticket packages, call the Gems front office at 275-7777, or visit us on the web at daytongems.com.
In addition to the good cause the Gems will be promoting, Dayton will be facing-off against their rival Fort Wayne that night. Each game between these two teams has been a fierce battle since the two played each other four times in a nine-day span back in December.
The 7:30 p.m. game at Hara Arena on Feb. 12 shouldn't be any different.
The Kettering Medical Center is proud to be the official title sponsor of the Gems for the 2010-11 season.
