WILSON, N.C. - The Peninsula Pilots fell 8-4 to the Wilson Tobs on Tuesday night at War Memorial Stadium. The two teams ended their season series with each team picking up four wins apiece.
The Pilots scored two runs in the first inning to take an early lead, Kyle McPherson (James Madison) hit a two-run double to score Will Shepherd (Liberty) and Poduslenko (Seton Hall).
Wilson wasted no time in answering as a two-run home run by former Pilot Jimmy Latona (Mercyhurst) tied the game in the bottom half of the inning.
Logan Baldwin (Georgia Southern) gave the Tobs the lead in the second inning with a RBI single through the right side.
The Pilots found the scoreboard in the fifth inning when Darian Carpenter (VCU) knotted the game at three apiece when he singled up the middle to score Shepherd.
Wilson used a four-run sixth inning to take the lead for good. Two singles and a hit by pitch set up a bases clearing triple by Spencer Brown (High Point) to give the Tobs a 6-3 lead. After a strikeout, Baldwin hit a double to score Brown for a 7-3 lead.
The Pilots scored in the seventh to cut the deficit to three. Three consecutive singles by Nick Walker (Old Dominion), Shepherd, and Poduslenko loaded the bases with no outs. A double play ball by Carpenter allowed a run to score.
The Pilots return home for a quick two game homestand on Wednesday as they host Fayetteville for Alzheimer's Awareness Night. On Thursday, the Pilots will host Edenton for Jersey Night.
