
Piepkorn and Sevier Named Rawlings Northern League Player and Pitcher of the Month for August

Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks third baseman Jeremiah Piepkorn has been named Rawlings Northern League Player of the Month for August, and Joliet JackHammers pitcher Nate Sevier has been selected the Rawlings Pitcher of the Month for August.
Piepkorn, who won the Northern League Batting Title with a .339 average, batted .384 (43-for-112) with seven doubles, a triple, eight home runs, 25 RBI, and 27 runs scored in the month.
He collected at least one hit in 22 of 28 games raising his average 20 points over the final month of the season. His month was highlighted by a four-game stretch where he went 10-for-17 (.588) with four home runs (August 24th - 27th). His month also included 15 multi-hit games and hitting streaks of both seven and 10 games. He finished the regular season leading the league in batting (.339) and hits (123 - tied). He also ranked second in total bases (204) and slugging percentage (.562) and third in home runs (19 - tied) and RBI (73). Piepkorn received Player of the Week honors for the Week ending August 30th.
The 6-3, 215-pounder, is a six-year veteran and former Cincinnati Reds farmhand. He was signed by the Reds in 2004 as a non-drafted free agent out of North Dakota State University (Fargo, ND). Players also receiving Player of the Month votes were Juan Diaz (.339, 11 HR, 30 RBI) of the Winnipeg Goldeyes and Mike Coles (.359, 14 2B, 34 Runs) of the RedHawks.
Sevier, who was recently named Pitcher of the Week for the period ending August 30th, posted a 3-2 record with a 2.36 ERA for the Joliet JackHammers in the month. He had a stretch of 16 consecutive scoreless innings (August 7th - 22nd) and struck out a league-high 13 batters in the August 29th game versus the Kansas City T-Bones. Overall in the month, he won a third of his team's nine victories. In his two losses and one no-decision, his run support consisted of a total of six runs, including 3-2 and 1-0 losses. In the month, he led the league in strikeouts (41), was third in innings pitched (42.0) and was ninth in ERA (2.36).
The 6-1, 200-pounder is in his third season with Joliet, posting a combined 20-16 record with a 4.71 ERA. In 2007, he was a 13-game winner and tossed a no-hitter for the JackHammers. The eightyear veteran played collegiately at Mesa Community College (Mesa, AZ) and has played for three different major league organizations: Seattle Mariners (2002), San Diego Padres (2004), and Chicago Cubs (2005). Other pitchers receiving consideration for Pitcher of the Month were Tony Cogan (2-2, 2.98 ERA, 35 SO) and Kyle Heyne (2-0, 1.04 ERA, 11 games) both of the Gary-SouthShore RailCats and the Kansas City T-Bones reliever/starter Cody McAllistster (4-1, 1.74 ERA, 28 SO).
