Phoenix FC News Release
TEMPE, Ariz. (July 3, 2013) - Phoenix FC, the newest professional sports franchise in Arizona and member of the USL PRO soccer league, announces today that it will make two schedule changes, and that it will also reconfigure seating at its home field of Sun Devil Soccer Stadium in Tempe.
For the match scheduled on July 11, Phoenix FC will host Antigua Barracuda FC at Grand Canyon University Soccer Field for a 7:30pm kickoff. The venue change has been expected since the beginning of the season, as Arizona State University had a previously scheduled event at Sun Devil Soccer Stadium on its calendar prior to USL PRO releasing its 2013 season schedule.
For the match originally scheduled versus the Harrisburg City Islanders on August 1, Phoenix FC will move the game up one day to July 31. This move comes after the announcement of the match being played at University of Phoenix Stadium between the Los Angeles Galaxy and Real Madrid as part of the Guinness International Champions Cup tournament, a match that looks to draw over 40,000 spectators.
Additionally, Phoenix FC announces that it is reconfiguring seating at its home field of Sun Devil Soccer Stadium in Tempe. The move will take seating from its current numbers of roughly 3,600 seats to the stadium's original capacity of 1,051 intimate seats on the west side of the field, plus standing room availability around other sections of the stadium.
"As part of our commitment to operate a successful franchise over the long term, we are changing the stadium to provide the best experience possible," says Eric Cornwell, Phoenix FC Chairman. "The change will reconfigure our seating to provide close to 1,100 seats that will give our loyal fans an intimate view of the pitch."
Season ticket seating will be reconfigured so that all season ticket holders will receive priority reassignment on the stadium's west side grandstand. All seats in this area existed at the stadium before the temporary expansion, and they feature a combination of individual fixed seats and bleacher seating.
"We have been extremely pleased with the reception that Phoenix FC has received from fans, enthusiasts, corporate partners and media here in the Valley," says Cornwell. "We are very excited about what lies ahead for the remainder of our inaugural season, and we are confident that Phoenix FC will continue to grow and to field a competitive team that Arizona's soccer following will be proud to call their own."
