Philyaw named AFL Offensive Player of the Week

Chicago Rush quarterback Raymond Philyaw was named AFL Offensive Player of the Week for his performance Sunday in Chicago's 55-39 win over the defending ArenaBowl champion San Jose SaberCats, the Arena Football League announced today.
Philyaw enjoyed perhaps his best game of the season on Sunday, opening the contest by completing his first 17 passes, before finishing the game 27 of 35 for 264 yards. He passed for six touchdowns and rushed for a seventh in leading the Rush to its first-ever win over San Jose.
"Ray played great on Sunday," said Rush head coach Mike Hohensee. "He made some super throws while under pressure and I think it was a great performance for him to build his confidence. It seems like he is coming into his own and peaking at the right time to lead us into the playoffs."
Since missing two games in March with a sprained MCL in his right knee, Philyaw has been about as hot as a quarterback can get, completing 71 of 99 passes (72%) for 773 yards, 13 touchdowns and only two interceptions in three games.
This Sunday, April 17, Philyaw and the Rush (6-4) host the AFL hottest team, John Elway's Central Division-leading Colorado Crush (8-2). The Crush has won seven in a row and leads the Rush by two games in the division.
