Indiana Mad Ants News Release
Fort Wayne, IN, (September 27, 2011) - The Fort Wayne Mad Ants announced today that Marvin Phillips Jr. has signed a contract with the Mad Ants and the NBA Development League for the 2011-12 season.
Phillips Jr., known as one of the toughest rebounders in the D-League, played in all 50 games for the Ants last season including 22 starts. He finished 5th in the league in rebounds per game (9.3) and 1st in offensive rebounds (3.7) per game along with contributing 12.3 points per game. Phillips was traded to the Mad Ants at the beginning of last season by the Iowa Energy, who he played for during the 2008-09 and 2009-2010 seasons.
"Marvin is one of the most dynamic and prolific rebounders in our league, and we could not be more happy to have such a productive player back in a Mad Ants uniform," said Mad Ants president Jeff Potter. "Marvin has the rare and unique gift of having a nose for the basketball, and my expectation is for him to be an even bigger monster on the glass this season."
Phillips Jr. will join Ron Howard, Chris Hunter, and Walker Russell Jr., who all signed D-League contracts last week, on the Mad Ants 17 man training camp roster. The Mad Ants are holding open tryouts on October 22nd and 23rd to help fill vacant training camp spots. Information on open tryouts is available on www.fortwaynehoops.com.
