Philadelphia Wings Look to Improve East Division Standing this Weekend

February 20, 2013 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Philadelphia Wings News Release

Fresh off a bye week, the Philadelphia Wings get back on the turf with two games this weekend. The Wings will seek to avenge the team's 20-10 loss earlier this month to the Rochester Knighthawks, in New York on Saturday, before returning home to Wells Fargo Center to mark their territory in the team's second annual "Bark in the Bowl" against the Colorado Mammoth on Sunday, February 24 at 4 p.m.

Having lost five consecutive times to the Knighthawks, the Wings hope to use the off week's rest to bounce back with a vengeance. The Wings will need star forward Kevin Crowley to get the scoring started. In Philadelphia's past three games (0-3), Crowley has scored just three goals, compared to the seven he scored in Philadelphia's first two games, both wins.

Slow starts have plagued the Wings this season, with the team scoring only seven first quarter goals through five games. The lack of offense combined with the defense giving up 50 goals in the past three games, after giving up only 15 in the first two games, has resulted in 2-3 record, early in the season.

With just about half the season left to play, the Wings look to their leader, Captain Brodie Merrill, whose three goals against Rochester earlier this month led the Wings. Former Knighthawk, Jordan Hall, who was acquired during the off season in exchange for Dan and Paul Dawson, performed well against his former team in their last meeting, scoring two goals and two assists.

Looking ahead to Sunday's home game, the Wings will try for their first win at Wells Fargo Center since their home opener victory against the Buffalo Bandits. Sunday's game will be the second annual "Bark in the Bowl", where fans are invited to bring their dog to the game. The Wings are 1-2 in their last three games against the Mammoth. Coming off two losses, Colorado finds themselves in the cellar of the West Division at 2-4, tied with Minnesota for fourth place. The Mammoth are led by John Grant Jr. who has scored 20 goals and dished out 14 assists for 34 points through six games.

Tickets for the Wings' "Bark in the Bowl" game on February 24 and all Wings 2013 home games are available by phone at 215-389-WING or online at www. WingsLAX.com .
