Dual Wins for Matthews and Thompson

Edmonton, AB---- For the second time this season, Edmonton Rush rookie sensation Mark Matthews has received an NLL weekly award. The NLL named Matthews Offensive Player of the Week, he has previously been named NLL Rookie of the Week. Matthews' teammate Jeremy Thompson has been named NLL Transition Player of the Week.

The awards cap off a pair of Rush's victories last weekend over Washington (15-10) in Edmonton, and a 14-7 win in Colorado. Edmonton's record improved to 3 - 4, go for third spot in the NLL West Division

Matthews' 11 goal weekend (6 G 1 A 3 LB's in 15-10 win over Washington 15-10. 5 G 1 A 2 LB's in 14-7 win over Colorado).gives him a league leading 23 goals and a team best 38 points on the season. The 2012 first overall draft selection for the Rush tied the overall goal per game on Friday night with six goals for the 14-7 victory against the Washington Stealth.

Jeremy Thompson, awarded the NLL Transition Player of the Week, played a key role in the strong performance of the Rush defence which allowed just 17 goals over the two weekend wins. He recorded 13 LB's, 2 forces turnovers and 14 face off wins against the Washington Stealth. In Colorado, the following night, he picked up 11 loose balls and was 16 of 24 on face off's for the 14-7 victory.

The Rush return home to Crystal Glass Field at Rexall Place Friday, February 22 to face the Minnesota Swarm 7:00 p.m. MST.
