Philadelphia Wings News Release
PHILADELPHIA - Today, the Philadelphia Wings announced they have signed forward Blaze Riorden to a two-year contract extension, keeping him with the team through the 2026-27 season. A key member of the Wings offense since the team's inaugural season, Riorden recorded a career season last year and now returns for his fifth season with the Wings and sixth in the NLL.
"Philadelphia is my home," said Riorden. "I want to continue to grow lacrosse here and compete to bring an NLL championship back to this city. This organization and coaching staff is special and I couldn't think of a better place to go all in on for the next four years. I look forward to hearing the loyal fans and competing in one of the best arenas in sports."
After joining the Wings in 2018, the Fairport, NY native set career highs this past season with 34 goals and 39 assists, good for third on the team in points. Prior to his time with the Wings, Riorden started his NLL career with the Buffalo Bandits, where he recorded six goals and 13 assists for 19 points in nine games during the 2017 season.
"Blaze was our most consistent offensive threat last year, and we expect this to continue in the future," said Wings General Manager and Head Coach Paul Day. "He has become a great leader for this group, and we are very excited to have him continue to develop and lead this team to an NLL Title."
In addition to his position as a forward in the NLL, Riorden is a goalie in the Premier Lacrosse League. His landmark butterfly style and stick skills have led to him being considered a generational talent and becoming the first goalie in league history to win three consecutive Oren Lyons Goalie of the Year Awards. In addition to his PLL and NLL experience, Riorden has also seen success on the international stage having won two bronze medals with the U.S. Men's National Box team (2015, 2019), and a gold medal in 2023 with the U.S. Men's National Field team. Prior to his professional career, Riorden's time as a goalie at the University of Albany was marked by several major awards and recognitions, including being named a third-team All-American, first-team all-conference, and America East Defensive Player of the Year.
