Philadelphia Soul News Release

PHILADELPHIA (June 7, 2012) - The Arena Football League has announced that Philadelphia Soul FB Derrick Ross (6'0, 240, Tarleton State) has been named the National Guard MVP of the Week for his performance this past Saturday in the Soul's 79-48 victory against the Orlando Predators. Milwaukee's QB Gino Guidugli and Utah's QB Tommy Grady were also up for the award.

"I am truly honored to receive this award," Ross said. "The most important thing to me was that we won the game. This season has been about us as a "˜team' and I know that I couldn't have received this recognition without the blocking from our offensive line and the receivers making plays downfield."

Ross earned the League's honors by putting up impressive numbers against the Predators. The fullback broke his own franchise record by rushing for 84 yards in a single game. Ross also scored five rushing touchdowns, which is not only the most of any rusher in the League this season, but also the most by any Soul player in franchise history.

Ross's 84-yard performance also helped him become the 10th player in AFL history to reach the 1,000-yard plateau for a career. By accomplishing the feat in only 29 games, he became the fastest in League history to reach the mark.

The Soul take on the Milwaukee Mustangs this Friday, June 8 at 8 p.m. ET at the BMO Harris Bradley Center in Milwaukee.
