Published on June 7, 2012 under Arena Football League (AFL) News Release
CHICAGO - Philadelphia Soul FB DERRICK ROSS has been named National Guard MVP of the week for his performance in Week 13 of the AFL season, as voted on by fans.
Ross (6-0, 250, Tarleton State) set single-game franchise rushing records with 84 yards and five touchdowns in the team's 79-48 victory over the Orlando Predators. His five rushing touchdowns are the most scored in a game by any player this season.
The fullback also became just the 10th player in AFL history to reach the 1,000-yard mark for a career. By accomplishing the feat in just 29 games, he reached the milestone faster than any player in the history of the League.
Other candidates for the National Guard MVP award included Milwaukee Mustangs QB Gino Guidugli and Utah Blaze QB Tommy Grady.
The Soul (9-3) play the Milwaukee Mustangs (4-7) on Friday, June, 8. Kickoff is set for 8:00 p.m. ET.
