Philadelphia Soul Releases Inaugural Schedule
October 28, 2003 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
Philadelphia Soul News Release
PHILADELPHIA -- The Philadelphia Soul of the Arena Football League has announced their schedule for their upcoming inaugural season. The Soul will make their AFL debut on Sunday, February 8 at 3 p.m. live on NBC Sports against fellow expansion foe, New Orleans Voodoo.
"I'm very pleased with this schedule," said Head Coach Michael Trigg. "I'm sure the fans here will continue their rivalry with Dallas and New York throughout our season and it should provide a great atmosphere for those games."
The Soul's eight game home schedule will be split between the Wachovia Center and the Wachovia Spectrum and will feature four Sunday afternoon games (Center) and four Saturday night contests (Spectrum).
The Soul will play a home and home series with each of their divisional opponents: the Dallas Desperados, New York Dragons, Columbus Destroyers and Carolina Cobras.
The schedule also matches the Soul against John Elway's Colorado Crush twice this season, in a rare home and home non-divisional series as well as a road match-up versus the defending ArenaBowl Champions, Tampa Bay Storm all of which are slated to be aired on NBC Sports. The Soul's home schedule will also feature two playoff teams from last season, the Chicago Rush and Las Vegas Gladiators. The remaining road schedule includes games versus fellow expansion team, Austin Wranglers and the 2002 ArenaBowl Champions, San Jose SaberCats.
The Soul are tentatively scheduled to be featured on NBC Sports eight times this season.
The 2004 AFL season will consist of nineteen teams â including four new markets. An odd number of teams means at least one team will have a bye each week throughout the 17-week regular season. It also means the 2004 playoffs will go from four rounds to three, including ArenaBowl XVIII, with only eight teams qualifying for the postseason instead of 12.
The Philadelphia Soul will kick off their inaugural season this February. Season ticket plans are on sale now and can be purchased for as low as $80. For more information on season tickets call 1-888-PHIL-AFL.
