Fury Announce 2004 Schedule
October 28, 2003 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
Detroit Fury News Release
AUBURN HILLS, Mich. -The Detroit Fury of the Arena Football League announced their schedule for the 2004 season. The Fury will kick-off the franchise's fourth season and the AFL's 18th, on Thursday, February 5, at 7:30 p.m., when they host the San Jose SaberCats, who will be making their first-ever appearance at The Palace of Auburn Hills.
The Fury, who have re-aligned into the AFL's Central Division, will also have the opportunity to rekindle their intrastate rivalry with the Grand Rapids Rampage. The Fury and Rampage will meet twice in 2004, the second of which will be in the final week of the regular season in Grand Rapids. Last season, the Fury defeated the Rampage in the first round of the 2003 AFL playoffs.
"This is a very challenging schedule, but I feel that everybody probably has a tough schedule," said Fury Assistant Head Coach and Director of Player Personnel Tom Luginbill. "We might have the toughest first two games though. We'll find out a lot about our team early on in the season."
The Fury's 17-week schedule includes home games against all of their Central Division rivals, the expansion Austin Wranglers and last year's ArenaBowl XVII runners-up, the Arizona Rattlers.
For the first time in AFL history, each team will also have a bye week during the season.
The new schedule also features a revised playoff picture. Previously, 12 teams made the playoffs, however, in 2004, only eight spots will be available for postseason play. The wildcard round of playoffs has been eliminated, and only four playoff spots will be open to the remaining teams that do not win their respective divisions.
The Fury return for their fourth season of Arena Football League action at The Palace of Auburn Hills this February 2004. Season tickets for the Fury can be purchased by calling (248) 377-0100, and additional information can be found at www.detroitfury.com.
