Philadelphia Phillies Acquire Jesse Oster From Chico Outlaws

Chico Outlaws News Release

Dublin, CA. May 30, 2008) The Golden Baseball League (GBL) announced today that the Philadelphia Phillies have acquired the contract of RHP Jesse Oster of the Chico Outlaws. In a classic baseball story line, Oster was pitching for Chico in a charity benefit game on an off-day for the team against a ballclub from Redding that had a player the Phillies were scouting, but Oster's outstanding outing caught the attention and resulted in a spot in Philadelphia's organization for the young hurler. The righthander is the second pitcher off the Outlaws' staff to have his contract purchased by a major league club, along with Chris Malone who went to the Rockies five days ago.

Oster, 22, 6-0, 205 lbs is a right-handed power pitcher who was undrafted after completing his collegiate baseball career at Northern Iowa University. The hard-thrower joined the Chico Outlaws last season and had a fine rookie year as a pro as he posted a 4-2 record with a 3.74 E.R.A. as he appeared in 27 games out of the bullpen for the 2007 GBL Champions. This season he was slated to be a mainstay of the Chico releif corps prior to the acquisition by Philadelphia.

Oster is the eighth GBL player in 2008 to be acquired by a major league organization following the 17 players sold in 2007. He is the ninth Chico Outlaw to be acquired by a major league oragnization in the last three seasons.
