New Hampshire Phantoms News Release

Hampstead, NH, 09/06/05 - The NH Phantoms are facing the top two teams in the USL Second Division this weekend. On Friday night the team plays at second placed Wilmington Hammerheads, kick off is at 7:30 pm. Exactly 24 hours later the Phantoms travel to Charlotte to play top of the table side Charlotte Eagles.

Phantoms have already played the Hammerheads once this season – the first home game of the season resulted in a 1:0 win for the New Hampshire team, the winner coming from Manny Brito. Hammerheads have been defeated in two of their last three games, surprisingly losing at bottom-rock Northern Virginia Royals this Wednesday 3:4. However the Wilmington team has not made a mistake at home so far winning all 5 games at their ground. Charlotte Eagles have lost just one game in their campaign so far – inflicted by the Hammerheads three weeks ago. The team has scored 24 goals in 8 games and conceded only 5.

However there is a feeling of optimism in the Phantoms squad after the big win from last week against the Northern Virginia Royals 6:0. GM Jim DeDeus said: “We showed that we had quality last weekend. The season has not been great for us so far away from home, but hopefully we have already turned things around and will keep on winning streak.”

Two of the Phantoms players made the USL Second Division Team of the Week selection. They are striker Mark Manganello, who scored the first two goals against the Royals, and Rafael Henkel, who assisted for Manganello’s first goal and then scored a goal himself. Both of them are available for the games on Friday and Saturday.
