Youngstown Phantoms News Release

Youngstown, OH - The Youngstown Phantoms have acquired USHL veterans Primo Self and Kyle Bettens in separate moves. Youngstown moved a conditional 2022 7th round selection in Phase 2 of the USHL entry draft to the Dubuque Fighting Saints to secure Self. The Bettens deal, which consisted of a 2022 8th round Phase 1 selection and a 2022 4th round selection in Phase 2 of the draft going to the Cedar Rapids Roughriders, was completed on Sunday evening prior to solidifying the team's 25-man roster.

Self, who hails from Grand Rapids MI, spent last season with Dubuque and posted a stat line of 8 goals and 4 assists for 12 points in 37 USHL games. He brings 88 games of junior experience to the Phantoms lineup.

"We are excited to add Primo to our team. He is a smart player that provides a solid offensive skill set and a great deal of USHL and junior experience which will help our team immensely. Our locker room got better today as did our team intelligence. This is a perfect opportunity for Primo to utilize his assets to help our team win now," stated Co-General Manager Ryan Kosecki.

Kyle Bettens hails from Winnipeg, Manitoba. He played 50 games for the Omaha Lancers this past season and posted 9 goals and 20 assists for 29 points. Bettens brings significant junior experience and point production to the Phantoms and will make an immediate impact for the club. Two seasons ago, he posted a gaudy stat line of 18 goals and 38 assists for 56 points in 49 games for the Steinbach Pistons of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League, which was good for tops on the team.

Phantoms Co-GM, Jason Deskins stated, "Kyle is a big kid with a ton of skill, hockey intelligence and scoring ability. He puts the puck in the net and has a knack for making the players around him better. We expect him to play a big part in our offensive success, especially on the power play, while also providing needed veteran USHL experience and stability to the group. We are very happy to add a player like Kyle to our club and look forward to him arriving in Youngstown."
