Mississauga St. Michael's Majors News Release

The Mississauga St. Michael's Majors are likely glad today was a preseason game and won't officially go in the books.

Mississauga carried a 1-0 lead into the third period before the Peterborough Petes stormed back with five unanswered goals in the final frame to drop the Majors 5-1.

The five Peterborough goals came in a span of 7:53, starting with a power play goal by Lino Martschini which tied the game at 1-1. Martschini finished the day with a goal and an assist as did Dylan Fitze, who scored what would prove to be the game winner just 1:45 later, another power play goal, at 11:35.

Stephen Pierog gave the Petes a 3-1 lead at 13:09 before Stephen Nosad tallied twice, scoring his first on the power play at 15:51, then adding some insurance and closing out the scoring at 17:43.

Derek Schoenmakers opened the games scoring for the Majors at 17:34 of the first period on a nice feed from Riley Brace on the power play, which turned out to be the only offence the club could muster at Port Credit Arena on Saturday afternoon.

Petes' goaltender Michael Givgovaz started and earned the win, while Spencer Martin suffered the loss in the Majors goal.

The Majors were 1-for-9 on the power play, while the Petes had three power play goals on 12 attempts with the man advantage.

The Majors continue their preseason schedule on Thursday, September 15th when they travel to Owen Sound to take on the Attack. Game time is 7 p.m. at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre. The Majors then close out their exhibition schedule on Saturday, September 17th, also against the Owen Sound Attack, and will be played at Vic Johnson Arena. Puck drop is 2 p.m.
