Peters Added To All-Star Roster

New York, NY - The Women's United Soccer Association (WUSA) today announced that New York Power midfielder Joey Peters will replace All-Star Starter Pretinha (World Stars), as the Brazilian forward will not play due to a groin strain.

The 2003 Hyundai WUSA All-Star Game will be televised on ESPN2 on Thursday, June 19 at 7:30 p.m. ET at SAS Stadium and will provide a World Cup preview as all of the top players who are expected to compete in the 2003 FIFA Women's World Cup will be in Cary for the three-day event.

A first-year player for New York, Peters, has played in nine matches during the 2003 season, scoring two goals and two assists for a total of six points.. The 5-foot-8 midfielder is the co-vice captain of the Australian national team and appeared in the 1999 Women's World Cup. On June 4, 2003, Peters was named Australia's Women's International Player of the Year. The award is presented to the Qantas Matildas player deemed to have performed the best in international competition over the last year, as selected by National Coach Adrian Santrac.

Peters will go up against the American Stars, and Power teammates Tiffeny Milbrett and Shannon Boxx. Milbrett was named a starter for the American Stars, while Boxx was added as a reserve.

The New York Power is one of eight professional women's soccer teams that make up the Women's United Soccer Association (WUSA), the world's premier women's soccer league. 2003 New York Power tickets are priced at $25, $20, $17 and the addition of a $10 ticket for the 2003 season.
