Alaska Aces News Release
ANCHORAGE, Alaska â Ryan Person stopped 30 of 31 shots as the Anchorage Aces clinched their first series win with a 2-1 victory over Bakersfield in front of 3,052 Saturday night at Sullivan Arena.
Dean Larson followed up his hat trick in Friday night's 6-5 win with another goal that broke a scoreless deadlock at the 11:27 mark of the second period, assisted by J.J. Wrobel and rookie defenseman Ryan Moren. Early in the third period, Moren set up another goal by newly anointed captain B.J. Young, his sixth in the last nine games, and Anchorage went up 2-0. Shawn Byram tucked home a rebound on a Bakersfield power play at 7:55 to cut the lead in half, but the Condors (13-6-1) failed to get the equalizer despite generating 24 shots on goal over the final two periods.
Larson will remain atop the WCHL scoring race with 28 points on a team-best 12 goals and 16 assists while Person garnered his first victory in five decisions. Bakersfield netminder Kevin St. Pierre is 0-2-1 against the Aces (6-16-1) and 13-1 against the rest of the WCHL. Anchorage, winners of consecutive games for only the second time all year, improved to 5-2-1 versus the Condors, Fresno Falcons, and San Diego Gulls, as opposed to 1-14 against Idaho and Long Beach.
The series finale between the two clubs is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. tomorrow afternoon. The first 2,000 fans 14 and under arriving at Sullivan Arena will not be charged admission when accompanied by a paying adult and bringing two plush toys in support of the 3rd annual "Teddy Bear Toss" in support of Toys for Tots. All games are broadcast live on KFQD 750 AM and at www.anchorageaces.com or www.kfqd.com with Jack Michaels calling the play-by-play.
