Summary

The Akron RubberDucks and Harrisburg Senators wore their Copa identities as Los Perros Calientes de Akron rallied for five in the eighth to defeat Los Playeros de Harrisburg 9-5 at Canal Park. Akron moved into a first place tie with Richmond with the win.

Turning Point

Eric Rodriguez worked a bases loaded walk to tie the game at 5-5 in the bottom of the eighth. Chris Roller followed with a two-run double to put Akron in the lead again 7-5. George Valera hit a two-run single putting Akron up further 9-5.

Mound Presence

Hunter Gaddis got the start for the RubberDucks and was dominant getting his first seven outs via the strikeout. In total, Gaddis went five and two thirds innings allowing just one run on one hit while striking out 10. Thomas Ponticelli followed with an inning and a third allowing two runs (one earned) with a strikeout. Kyle Marman followed with an inning allowing two hits and a strikeout. Jerson Ramirez followed with a scoreless ninth.

Duck Tales

After a leadoff double into left by Roller, Brayan Rocchio hit an RBI single on a ground ball into right putting Akron up 1-0 in the first. In the fourth inning, Jonathan Engelmann and Victor Nova worked walks to set up Rodriguez for a three-run home run to make it 4-0 Ducks.

Notebook

Gaddis recorded his 83rd strikeout, tying him for third in the Eastern League... Valera recorded his 42nd RBI, leading the team tying him for fourth in the Eastern League...Game time 2:51... Attendance 3,163

On the Pond

The Akron RubberDucks will continue their series with the Harrisburg Senators on Wednesday, June 22 at 6:35 p.m. at Canal Park. Left-hander Joey Cantillo (3-3, 2.55 ERA) will get the start for Akron against Harrisburg right-hander Luis Reyes (2-2, 3.51 ERA).
