Bloomington PrairieThunder News Release
BLOOMINGTON (Ill.) - Rookie goaltender Steffan Braunlich of the Bloomington PrairieThunder signed a professional tryout agreement Thursday with the Peoria Rivermen of the American Hockey League.
The 6-foot-3, 230-pound Braunlich will be in uniform for the Rivermen in a two-game series in Winnipeg this weekend. The Rivermen play at 7:30 p.m. Friday and at 2 p.m. on Sunday. He will return to the PrairieThunder on Monday.
Braunlich has appeared in nine games this year and has a 2-6-0 record with a 3.24 goals against average. He has a team-leading .908 save percentage.
"It's a great opportunity for Stef to be called up to the next level," said PrairieThunder coach Derek Booth, whose team returns to action Friday night at 6:30 at Kalamazoo. "That was my goal for my players. "We had B.J. Gaustad called up (by Iowa for one game) and now it's Stef's turn. It's a great situation. The reason the call-up is there is because we are in such close proximity to Peoria and we're working closely with them."
Booth also announced the signing of goaltender Jorge Alves on Thursday to serve as a back-up for Jeff Reynaert this weekend. After Friday night's game, the PrairieThunder plays at home against Quad City on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. at U.S. Cellular Coliseum before traveling to Flint on Sunday for a 3 p.m. contest.
Alves, a native of Boston, began his professional career in 2004 with Asheville in the Southern Professional League. He played sparingly at South Carolina and Greenville in the ECHL last season.
