LAKE ST. LOUIS, MO --- The United Hockey League (UHL) announced Wednesday that it is teaming up with VH1 to present the "UHL Battle of the Bands" competition. Six UHL teams will host local bands at upcoming games that will compete for a trip to New York and an opportunity to perform for music executives. Proceeds from the UHL Battle of the Bands will benefit the VH1 Save the Music Foundation.

"We are excited to partner with VH1 and present this unique promotion," stated Richard Brosal, UHL President/CEO. "These events will provide a fun atmosphere at upcoming UHL games and give some local bands a great opportunity to compete for something special. Above all, this initiative will benefit an outstanding cause by generating funds for the VH1 Save the Music Foundation."

The VH1 Save The Music Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of education in America's public schools by restoring music programs in cities across the country, and raising public awareness about the importance of music participation for our nation's youth. Since its inception in 1997, VH1 Save The Music has donated more than $34 million worth of musical instruments to 1,400 public schools in 80 cities, improving the lives of more than 800,000 children.

"We are thrilled to be working with the UHL on this innovative promotion that will help the VH1 Save The Music Foundation restore instrumental music programs in communities across the country," said Paul Cothran, Executive Director, VH1 Save The Music Foundation. "All funds raised from this partnership will help The Foundation put musical instruments directly in the hands of U.S. public schools students. We are so very grateful for the support of the UHL and we wish all participating bands the best of luck!"

As a part of the initiative, UHL clubs will invite bands from their local area to perform at future home games. Winners from these local competitions will then compete for the grand prize, which involves meeting and performing for music executives with the potential of earning a recording contract. In addition to the competition, the home team for each of the games will wear special "Battle of the Bands" jerseys that will be auctioned off following the events.

The UHL and VH-1 Save The Music promotional partnership was created by UHL fan Scott Givens, Senior Director of Marketing at RCA Records, and UHL Commissioner Richard Brosal.

Dates for the band competitions are yet to be announced in the markets of Bloomington, Chicago, Elmira, Flint, Quad City, and Rockford. More information regarding each event will be released at a later date.
