
Pensacola Wins 5-1, Claims 2014 Championship

Columbus Cottonmouths News Release
The Pensacola Ice Flyers relied on the scoring touch of Brett Lutes, who netted two goals, to beat the Columbus Cottonmouths, 5-1.
Lutes' tallies came at 2:18 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Pensacola and 7:43 into the first to make the score 2-0 Pensacola.
The win by Pensacola clinched the best of three series at 2-0.
Corey Banfield also scored for Pensacola. In addition, Pensacola received assists from Tyler Amburgey, Steve Whitely, Ryan Salvis, Steve Bergin, and Jeremy Gates, who contributed one each and Drew Baker and Paul Rodrigues, who each chipped in two.
Columbus was led by Preston Shupe, who scored the team's only goal. Shupe scored 11:35 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Pensacola. Jason Gray assisted on the tally.
Ross MacKinnon rejected 21 shots on goal for the Ice Flyers. Pensacola totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major and went 1-for-3 on the power play. The Cottonmouths' Andrew Loewen stopped 25 shots out of the 30 that he faced. Columbus totaled 19 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major and went 0-for-2 on the power play.
