Biloxi Shuckers News Release
PENSACOLA, FL - After jumping out to a 2-0 lead, the Biloxi Shuckers (15-34) saw the Pensacola Blue Wahoos (30-20) come back twice in a 4-3 defeat on Wednesday night at Blue Wahoos Stadium.
Biloxi took an early lead in the second inning when Tristen Lutz connected for a solo home run to right field, his seventh of the season, giving the Shuckers a 1-0 advantage.
A fielding error helped the Shuckers double their lead in the third. Ryan Aguilar and Cam Devanney both walked against RHP Edward Cabrera (W, 1-0) and Brice Turang followed with a single to right. Aguilar was held up at third, but when J.J. Bleday bobbled the ball in right field, Aguilar raced in to score, putting Biloxi up 2-0.
Pensacola climbed out of the hole and took the lead in the bottom of the fourth. RHP Jesus Castillo (L, 0-3) allowed four straight hits, scoring two runs for the Blue Wahoos to tie it up at 2-2. Castillo then induced a lineout double play from Jhon Nunez, but Galli Cribbs Jr. singled up the middle in the next at bat, driving in the runner from third to put Pensacola up 3-2.
Biloxi had an immediate answer in the top of the fifth inning, yet again capitalizing on a Blue Wahoos error. Gabriel Garcia struck out but reached on a wild pitch with one out and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from Aguilar. Devanney then bounced a ball behind third base that was booted by Riley Mahan, putting men on corners with two outs. Turang looped a single into left field, sending Garcia home to tie the game at 3-3.
Unfortunately for the Shuckers, an error of their own opened the door for the Blue Wahoos in the bottom of the fifth. Peyton Burdick reached to start the inning on a fielding error by Devanney and moved to third on a single to right from Jerar Encarnacion. Nick Fortes drove in Burdick on a single up the middle, putting Pensacola up 4-3.
The Blue Wahoos limited the Shuckers base runners in the final four innings as Biloxi managed just two hits. Brent Diaz did reach with two outs in the top of the ninth inning with a single against RHP Zack Leban (S,1) but was left stranded as Garcia struck out.
Biloxi continues their series against Pensacola on Thursday night at Blue Wahoos Stadium. LHP Andy Otero (1-0, 1.86) takes the mound for the Shuckers opposite Wahoos' LHP Jake Eder (3-2, 1.13) for a 6:35 pm first pitch. The game can be heard locally on Cruisin' WGCM AM 1240/FM 100.9.
