Mobile BayBears News Release
PENSACOLA, Fla. - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, outlasted the Pensacola Blue Wahoos and won the series finale 6-4 in 10 innings Sunday afternoon at Blue Wahoos Stadium.
With the placed runner on second base to begin the extra frame, Wade Wass hit a home run off Wyatt Strahan (5-6) on the first pitch of the inning to give Mobile (37-31) a 6-4 lead. Dario Beltre (1-0) worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the bottom half to earn his first Double-A win.
Jesus Castillo worked three hitless innings in his final start of the first half. He issued just one walk and struck out four batters.
Pensacola (30-38) starter Vladimir Gutierrez recorded a quality start. He only allowed three hits, including a two-run homer to Zach Houchins in the fourth. Gutierrez matched his season-high with eight strikeouts.
The Blue Wahoos plated runs in the fourth and fifth to tie the game and two in the sixth to take the lead. However, the BayBears rallied with runs on a Brennon Lund groundout in the eighth and a Brendon Sanger double in the ninth to force extras.
The BayBears begin the second half with a six-game home series against the Tennessee Smokies beginning Thursday at 6:35 p.m. CDT. Live coverage can be seen on MiLB.tv (subscription required, promo code: BAYBEARS) and heard on the BayBears Broadcast Network, the TuneIn Radio App, and the MiLB First Pitch App, with the Countdown to First Pitch starting at 6:15 p.m.
