Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins News Release
WILKES-BARRE, PA - Trading cards, scarves, golf umbrellas and a special Bonvie bobbler highlight the 2007-2008 Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins promotional schedule, which was released Tuesday by the team.
The Penguins will be handing out items during 15 home contests this season, with the vast majority of those games falling on weekend nights. What's more, the team has upped the number of giveaways from 5,000 to 6,000 for 12 of those games.
"Our fans have asked us to make more promotional items available on game nights, and we're happy to listen to them," said Penguins President Rich Hixon. "We have some new and unique items on the schedule for the season, and we want to make sure as many people get a chance to enjoy them as possible."
The team is wasting no time in unveiling those new gifts, as the first 6,000 through the doors on opening night (October 3 vs. Hershey) will receive a 2007-2008 mouse pad schedule, courtesy of Molson.
The first 1,500 kids 14 years of age and younger will walk away from the Saturday, October 6 game against the Syracuse Crunch with a backpack resembling a Penguins jersey, courtesy of Blue Cross of Northeastern Pennsylvania and Highmark Blue Shield.
An embroidered team scarf will go out to the first 6,000 fans prior to the Friday, November 2 game against the Toronto Marlies, and fans can fend off those April showers when they get their Penguins golf umbrella on Friday, April 4 when the club hosts the Springfield Falcons.
Perhaps the most anticipated item of the year will be handed at the Friday, March 28 game against the Hamilton Bulldogs. The first 6,000 fans that night will receive a Dennis Bonvie Bobble Gloves figure, sponsored by Blue Cross of Northeastern Pennsylvania and Highmark Blue Shield.
One lucky fan that night will find a âGolden Gloves' figure in his or her Bonvie Bobble Gloves box, and will receive a Penguins prize pack which will include a chance to meet Dennis after a home game and tour the team locker room.
Back once again this season will be the incredibly popular Game Worn Jersey Card giveaways, sponsored by Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep. The four-night promotion features swatches of the sweaters from all players lacing up the skates on opening night. This season's alternate jerseys (to be unveiled soon) will be used in the production of this year's set.
There will also be a twist to the Jersey Card Giveaway this season. Approximately 125 fans at each of the four games will receive a special, limited edition Dennis Bonvie card, featuring Dennis' regular white home jersey.
Several theme nights will also take place throughout the year, with the traditional holiday and St. Patrick's Day celebrations and jersey auctions taking place in December and March. Additionally, the team will once again pay tribute to our men and women in the armed forces with Military Night on Friday, February 8 against the Portland Pirates. The first 6,000 fans will receive a camouflaged Penguins hat, and have the opportunity to bid on the team's game-worn military-themed jerseys.
And, of course, every fan entering the building will win a prize on Fan Appreciation Night, being held on Wednesday, April 9 against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, when 20 lucky fans will walk away with the shirts off of the players' backs.
A full promotional schedule follows this release.
