Pensacola Pelicans News Release
With 52 days until the Pensacola Pelicans opening game, the Pels took a big step in securing their starting rotation as they signed Jared Gothreaux to a 2010 contract.
Gothreaux - 6'0, 200 - will be playing in his ninth professional season, four of which with the Round Rock Express, the Houston Astros triple-A affiliate. His career numbers include a 4.28 ERA, 576 strikeouts, 231 walks, and has given up only 481 runs in 892 innings pitched.
"Jared's role is to be a quality starter and lead our starting rotation," said Pelicans GM/Field Manager Talmadge Nunnari. "In addition, his experience in triple-A will be a valuable asset to our younger pitchers. He's a durable guy that stays around the zone and can log a lot of innings."
The Lake Charles, LA resident becomes the 11th pitcher on the 2010 roster, joining RHP Fransico Butto, RHP Kevin Cooper, RHP Dane DeValk, RHP Ron Hill, RHP Aaron Jackson, RHP David Nathanson, RHP Bubba Nelson, RHP Ulysses Roque, RHP Nick Slack, and RHP Joey Wedner.
Players report to Pelican Park for spring training on Friday, April 30. The team has only 12 days to prepare for the 2010 season opener on Friday, May14 in Grand Prairie, TX.
