Pensacola Pelicans News Release

The Pensacola Pelicans and Mac Seibert announced today that Seibert has accepted a position with the MLB New York Mets and steps down as the field manager of the Pelicans.

"We want to thank Mac for his contributions the past two years and wish him the best in his new role with the Mets," said Pelicans General Manager Talmadge Nunnari. "Mac was a great ambassador for the Pelicans and was well liked and respected in the Pensacola community and American Association."

Seibert will be a scouting supervisor, overseeing the amateur ranks, the minor leagues, and the big leagues. He will also be assisting in preparing the Mets for the Major League Baseball draft.

"The New York Mets are committed to assembling the best scouting staff in the industry," said Rudy Terrasas, Scouting Director of the New York Mets. "We are proud to have Mac as a member of our team."

Seibert rejoins the Major League Baseball scouting world having spent nearly 12 years between the Atlanta Braves, Arizona Diamondbacks, and the then Tampa Bay Devil Rays organizations. In 1995, he helped assemble the Braves' "Team of the Decade", winning a world championship and league championship in 1996. With the Devil Rays, he led a scouting staff that produced such great talent as Major Leaguer Rocco Baldelli and back-to-back minor league players of the year in B.J. Upton and Delmon Young.

"I would like to thank all the people that I have worked beside over the past two seasons as well as our fans," said Seibert. "I believe the foundation has been laid for future success in the American Association."

The Cantonment, FL resident was the Pelicans fifth skipper, joining the team at the beginning of the 2007 season. In two seasons, he compiled a record of 82-109 and helped four players sign with a MLB organization. In 2007, he was named the American Association Manager for the South Division Mid-Season all-star team.

Pels Notes - A waiting list is now being formed for premium level season tickets for the 2009 season. Anyone interested will be given the first right to those seats on a first come first serve basis. For additional information or questions, please call the Pelicans office at 850-934-8444.
