
Pelicans Win, Split Series with Coastal Bend

Pensacola Pelicans News Release
The Pelicans didn't look tired at all for a 10:00 a.m. game as they pounded Coastal Bend Aviators pitching for nine runs on 11 hits to win 9-4.
In the 2nd, the Pelicans had two out rally which was started off by a George Branch single. Trino Aguilar followed with a single and would later score off a two RBI double by Jose Salas to take the lead 2-0.
Coastal Bend answered right back with a two spot in the 3rd thanks to an Edwin Maldanado homerun.
Coastal Bend took the lead in the 5th when they scored two runs. Carlos Figueroa singled in Kenny Hansley who was previously hit by a pitch. Matt Mann then hit a groundball to short stop Carlos Mendoza that scored Maldanado who singled earlier.
In the bottom of the inning, Pensacola managed to get one run when Mendoza singled through the right side, scoring Caston who doubled a better before. That made the score 4-3.
Pensacola had their break out inning in the 6th as they batted around and scored six runs on five hits. In that inning, Caston, Bethea and Nestor Smith all doubled.
Peliocasn starting pitcher, Gerardo Casadiego pitched 6.2 innings, givgin up four runs on seven hits while striking out four Aviators batters. With the win, he improves to 4-3 on the year.
Robbie Hebert and Edwar Ramirez came in to pitch the final 2.1 innings for Casadiego. They combined to strikeout three batters and gave up no runs.
The Pelicans head Fort Worth to take on the first place Cats in a four game series to wrap up the CBL first half of the 2005 season.
