Pensacola Pelicans News Release
The Pelicans (15-14) head to Coastal Bend (19-10) to take on the Aviators in a three-game series against the South Division first place team. These two teams have faced each other in one series earlier this season. Coastal Bend won all four games May 15-18.
In the first half of the season, Pensacola and Coastal Bend play each other ten times, seven of those being in Coastal Bend while only three games will be played in Pensacola (June 23-25).
Pensacola has been one of the hottest teams in the league after their sluggish start and have won 15 of their last 21 games including a seven-game and six-game win streak. The Pelicans were once in last place, six games out of first place but are now in second place by themselves only four games back.
In the first series against the Aviators, Trino Aguilar led the Pelicans hitting .357 with four runs scored, a double and an RBI. Catcher Jose Yepes hit .467 that series but is out three weeks after surgery to his knee.
Starting pither Clint Sodowsky is looking for payback after his first outing against Coastal Bend in which he pitched well enough for a win but received a no-decision. He threw seven innings, gave up only two runs on seven hits while striking out seven. Sodowsky is ninth in the league with a 2.25 ERA and second in the league with 43 strikeouts. On the season, the tall right-hander is averaging a little over one strikeout per inning.
