Pelicans take two from first place Fort Worth

The Pelicans showed no rust after having the last two night's contest cancelled. Pensacola gave up a combined six hits in 14 innings, winning 3-1 and 4-0 tonight over the first place Fort Worth Cats.

In game one, Santos Hernandez set the stage by throwing a solid six innings and gave up only one run on four hits. Edwar Ramirez came in relief to pitch the 7 th inning to earn his 4 th save by striking out the side. Pensacola scored first by plating two runs in the first inning. Lead off batter, Mike Pierre walked and then stole second and then third base and scored when Carlos Mendoza doubled to left-center field. Juan Rocha and Larry Bethea then hit back to back sacrifice flies to score Mendoza.

Pensacola scored their third run of the first game in the third inning when Juan Rocha hit an opposite field homer, his 14 th of the season.

Fort Worth scored their lone run of the night in the 5 th inning when John Allen homered to left field, his 6 th of the season.

In game two, Pelicans starting pitcher Byron Batson picked up where Hernandez and Ramirez left off. Batson pitched a complete game while giving up only two hits and striking out five to improve his record to 6-5.

The Pelicans had their big inning in the 3 rd , when Pensacola scored three runs on four hits, the biggest being a two run homerun by Carlos Mendoza. With two outs, Joe Espada doubled and then scored off Mendoza's 8 th homer of the season. Rocha then doubled and then scored off a Bethea single.

Pensacola had another two out rally in the 5 th to score their 4 th run. Rocha walked and later scored off a Bethea single.
