Pensacola Pelicans News Release


Pensacola (6-6) welcomes the first place Ft. Worth Cats (10-3) to Pelican Park for a three game series. This is the first time these two teams have played each other this season. The Pelicans are currently 3-0 at home as they swept the visiting Shreveport Sports on May 9, 10 and 11.

In 2004, Ft. Worth just barely had the advantage over the Pelicans winning eight of the 14 games played. Despite the Pelicans out-hitting the Cats in average (.300 to .260) Ft. Worth was able to plate 23 more runs than Pensacola (103 to 80). The Pelicans led every offensive category last year when these two teams played, the difference being defense. Pensacola committed 26 errorrs comapred to Ft. Worth's 15, most of those coming with runners in scoring position.

Carlos Mendoza is looking forward to playing the Cats. Last year, he hit .351 with 20 hits, five double, three homeruns and scored 11 runs; all of which led the Pelicans.

For the Cats, 3B Terrence Green is espeically ready to play the Pelicans. In 2004, he hit .385 with 15 runs, two doubles, three homeruns and 12 RBI against Pensacola. Catcher Jason Radwan hit .250 but had 17 RBI and scored 13 runs against Pensacola last year.

One of the best back and forth games of the 2004 season came on Sunday, May 30 in Ft. Worth. The Pelicans won the game 13-12 in a slugfest. The two teams combined for 25 hits, four doubles, one triple, four homeruns and used 10 pitchers to combine for 12 walks and 14 strikeouts.
