MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - In a game that that lasted three hours and six minutes, it did not take long for the Nationals to lose the game. Myrtle Beach sent 12 hitters to the plate in the fifth inning erupting for eighth runs as they blew out Potomac 11-5 Wednesday afternoon at BB&T Coastal Field, to win the rubber match and the series.

Trailing 2-0 in the third inning, Frank Diaz got back in the RBI column for the Nationals with a clutch two-run single tying the game. The RBI were Diaz's ninth and tenth of the season. That was all the P-Nats offense could get as they left the bases loaded to end the inning.

The Nationals would leave the bases loaded again in the following inning and stranded ten runners through the first five innings.

With the game tied 2-2 heading into the bottom of the fifth, the Nationals pitchers lost control. Potomac starter Jhonny Nunez was run out of the game after Tyler Flowers pounded a two-run double breaking the tie. Nunez (0-4), who struggled lasting four innings while allowing five earned runs and four hits, suffered his fourth loss of the season.

Clint Everts relieved Nunez but did not fare much better in his second outing with the P-Nats this season as the onslaught continued. Everts got all three outs in the inning but not after giving up five earned runs and five hits to raise his ERA to 13.50. The first eight hitters of the inning reached base without recording an out, and the twelve hitters total were the most that the Nationals had allowed to bat in one inning this season.

The 10-2 deficit was more than Potomac could handle. Chris Marrero homered for the first time away from Pfitzner Stadium, a two-run shot late in the game for his fifth homer run of the season, which tied Leonard Davis for the team lead and four others for the league lead.

Kelvin Villa (1-0) earned the win for Myrtle Beach with three innings of relief for starter Kyle Cofield.

Potomac continues its seven game road trip tomorrow night. The P-Nats open a four-game series with the Kinston Indians with Terrence Engles (0-1, 18.00) scheduled to make his second start for the Nationals opposite Steven Wright (0-2, 3.08). First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Granger Stadium.
