August 10, 2005 - Central Baseball League (Central League)
Pensacola Pelicans News Release

Pensacola (20-16 2nd half and 49-34 overall) faces the San Angelo Colts (17-20 2nd half and 42-42 overall) in the final road series of the 2005 season.

The Pelicans magic number is four, meaning they only have to win four more games to clinch a spot in the CBL playoffs. Pensacola will try to come one step closer to earning the postseason bid against the Colts, who have played the Pelicans to a 3-3 series tie this season.

Pensacola has a 34-25 scoring advantage over San Angelo and is paced by Nestor Smith. The Pel's outfielder is hitting .421 with two homeruns and six RBI against the Colts.

The Pelicans pitching staff carries a 3.87 ERA with 46 strikeouts versus San Angelo. Santos Hernandez pitched six innings without giving up an earned run to pick up one of Pensacola's three victories.

San Angelo's staff has not fared as well, recording a 5.62 ERA with 37 strikeouts against Pensacola. The Colts enter the series with a 5.61 team ERA, last in the CBL.

Despite leading the CBL with a .296 team batting average, the Colts are hitting only .257 versus the Pelicans. Ryan Barker leads San Angelo with a .357 average to go along with five RBI and two doubles against Pelicans' pitching.
