Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release

RHP Marty Popham (1-0, 2.72) at LHP Miguel De Los Santos (1-3, 7.55, w/FRI & AZL)

HISTORIC REMATCH: It has been 17 days since these two Southern Division rivals played each other, and that is approximately how long their last game took to complete. The June 12 game at Grainger Stadium in Kinston went 23 innings, making it the longest game in the 66-year history of the Carolina League. 15 players logged eight or more at bats and both catchers, Zach Zaneski of Myrtle Beach and Kinston's Roberto Perez, caught every inning for their respective teams. 15 pitchers, seven for the Pelicans and eight for the K-Tribe, combined to throw 654 pitches, 339 of them by Myrtle Beach.

A FAMILIAR FACE RETURNS: Pelicans Opening Day designated hitter Travis Adair returns to Myrtle Beach and will bat seventh in the DH spot tonight. The Woodruff, SC native excelled in 16 games with the Pelicans, batting .365 while splitting time between DH and left field. He earned a call-up to Double-A Frisco on April 27 and hit .238 in 33 games before being transferred back to the Grand Strand. Adair was clutch for the Pelicans, notching three straight game-winning hits from April 18 to 20. The first of those games was highlighted by his throw from the left field that gunned down the tying run out at the plate for the final out. Travis is in his second year in the Rangers system after being released by the Braves in 2009.

OH, SNAP!: Salem salvaged the final game of three against Myrtle Beach yesterday with a four-hit shutout. The whitewash brought an end to a pair of solid hitting streaks. Jared Bolden went 0-for-3 to snap his nine-game run and Zach Zaneski's eight-gamer ended after an 0-for-3 day. Myrtle Beach has had four hit streaks of nine games or longer this season. Ryan Strausborger has the Carolina League's longest run at 16 (6/1-16)while a trio of nine-gamers have been put together by Bolden, Jared Prince (6/3-12) and Travis Adair (4/14-23).
