
Pelicans Clinch Second Half Championship

Jackson, MSâ The Pensacola Pelicans proudly announce tonight that they have clinched the Central League East Division second half championship. The Pelicans defeated the Jackson Senators nine to six.
Pensacola got on the board early by batting around in the first inning scoring seven runs on six hits.
Jeff Norris started the game, while Charlie Griffin got the win throwing 3.1 innings, giving up only one hit and striking out four. Gerardo Casadiego closed out the game pitching the last inning.
Offensively, the Pelicans were led by Jose Salas who went 2-for-4 with two doubles, Rafael Alvarez scored 2 runs, Carlos Mendoza had two RBI, and Jose Salas Jr. had a homerun.
Pensacola will now face the Shreveport Sports in the CBL East Division Championship. Shreveport, who won the East Division first half championship, will host the Pelicans for the first and second games of the series beginning on Monday, Aug. 23. August 24 will be an off day, and the series will head to Pensacola on Thursday, Aug. 26 where the final three games of a best of five series will be played.
Pensacola gets a good look at Shreveport as they travel there on Wednesday, Aug. 18 to play the final four games of the regular season. The regular season ends on Aug, 21.
