Pelicans bats quiet on rainy night

After an hour and a half rain delay, the skies cleared and a bright rainbow rose over Pelican Park for the first pitch. Two outstanding pitching performances highlighted the evening with Shreveport topping the Pelicans 6-1. Pensacola continued to increase their average attendance as 2,174 fans endured the rain delay.

Shreveport got on the board in the 2nd inning, with three consecutive hits including a two-run homerun from Tommy Bryant.

Pelicans starting pitcher Matt Creighton settled down and did not allow another hit until the 7th inning. The lefty threw 8 innings and gave up three runs on four hits with four strike outs.

Creighton was matched by Shreveport's starting pitcher Matt Yeatman. He picked up his fourth win with a complete game. He gave up one run on six hits and struck out five.

Pensacola scored their lone run in the 8th inning, making it a two-run game. Newly acquired Ricardo Cordova reached on an error and came in to score on an RBI single from Marcos Rodriguez.

Jeff Rodriguez came on in the 9th in relief of Creighton. The Sports managed to score three more runs on four hits. Melvin Falu, Deacon Buras, and Juan Ventura all had RBI singles.
