Pensacola Pelicans News Release
Pensacola, FL - The Pensacola Pelicans are pleased to announce Jay Burnham will be the "Voice of the Pelicans" for the 2005 season as the team's radio broadcaster.
As the play-by-play announcer, Burnham will host and produce all 94 Pelicans games, a one hour weekly coach's show and both a pre- and post-game show on AM 1620, the flagship station of the Pensacola Pelicans.
In 2003 and 2004, Jay was the assistant radio announcer for the Hagerstown Suns in the single "A" South Atlantic League, where he also assisted in sales and promotions.
Jay has studied around the globe, attending Hawaii Pacific University (Honolulu), Kansai Gaidai University (Osaka, Japan) and he graduated from Elon University (North Carolina) with a degree in Communications.
"We're happy to have Jay join our front office staff," said Pelicans General Manager George Stavrenos. "Having our games on the radio is a big part of the total baseball experience and we feel Jay will bring the action to the listeners well."
Throughout the year, various guests will be accompanying Jay on the airwaves to broadcast the games and add some variety and color for the listeners. All 94 games will also be available over the internet via web-cast on www.pensacolapelicans.com.
"I'm excited to be in Pensacola," said Burnham. "After weighing my options, Pensacola was the best place for me because of the quality of the team, town and ownership."
Over the off-season, Burnham, the Massachusetts native, spent his time substituting at elementary school class rooms in his home town, Shelburne, MA.
