Senators announce 2005 coaching staff

Jackson, MS; April 13, 2005- The Jackson Senators of the Central Baseball League (CBL) today announced Larry Wesson, Cody McCain and Craig Smith have been named to Field Manager Hill Denson’s coaching staff for the 2005 season.

Larry Wesson, a Brandon, MS native, will serve as Hitting Coach for the Senators this season. A four-year starter at Southern Miss under Denson when he coached the Golden Eagles, Wesson is currently Head Baseball Coach at University Christian School in Flowood, MS.

Cody McCain, who hails from Flowood, joins the Sens field staff this season as Pitching Coach. McCain played collegiately at Millsaps College in Jackson, MS and now serves as the Majors Pitching Coach.

Craig Smith will serve as Bullpen Coach and Clubhouse Manager with the Senators. Currently playing his senior season at Belhaven College in Jackson, MS, Smith will join Denson’s Belhaven coaching staff next year.

“I’m tickled to death with the three guys we have assembled as our staff,” said Denson. “Having coached and worked closely with all three, I know we are all on the same page in trying to accomplish the goals we have set, which is to provide the Senators fans with an exciting brand of baseball, and to bring the Central League Championship back to Jackson.”

The Jackson Senators are part of the Central Baseball League, an independent league of eight professional baseball teams located throughout four southern states. The league is preparing for its twelfth season this summer with teams located in Edinburg, El Paso, Ft. Worth, Robstown, and San Angelo, Texas; Shreveport, Louisiana; Pensacola, Florida; and Jackson, Mississippi. The CBL will play a 94-game schedule between May and August 2004.
