Pensacola Pelicans News Release
The Pensacola Pelicans coaching staff continues to get better, most recently with the addition of Richard Morris as the first base coach for the upcoming 2007 season, which opens on May 10 against the Lincoln Saltdogs.
Morris rejoins field manager Mac Seibert after working together with Team One for several years.
"I am extremely excited and grateful to Mac Seibert and the Pelicans organization," said Morris. "I'm looking forward to the competition and moving the team in a positive and winning direction."
The Lynchburg, VA resident brings 35 years of head coaching experience at the collegiate and high school levels to the club. Morris has also worked with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, New York Yankees, and Atlanta Braves as an associate scout and has conducted numerous professional tryout camps with the Yankees and Devil Rays along with Team One.
"I've known Richard for several years and he will bring a wealth of baseball experience and knowledge to our club," said Seibert. "I expect his high energy personality and approach to the game will overflow to the players, organization, and community."
In 1992, Morris coached the Team One East Team to a Gold Medal at the USA Jr. National Olympics Festival in Boise, ID.
Morris has worked clinics in New Jersey with Hall of Famer Gary Carter, Tony Graffanino, and Jeremy Afeldt. Currently, he instructs at Ed McRae's Baseball Academy in New Jersey.
