Kranawetter Repeats as CBL Pitcher of the Week
Josh Kranawetter was named the SportsTicker Central Baseball League Pitcher of the Week June 6 - June 12. This is Kranawetter's second time being awarded this honor. His first was just last week when he posted a record of 2-0 with a 1.50 ERA in two starts.
Kranawetter, who repeats as Pitcher of the Week, upped his winning streak to four with a complete game shut out of Amarillo on June 12. In that game, he allowed only two hits and struck out 12 and now leads the league with 63 K's. Kranawetter, who also pitched an inning of scoreless relief on June 9, leads the league with a 1.88 ERA and has allowed only two runs in his last 28 innings of work.
Kranawetter now has a record of 4-2.
Jackson's Selwyn Langaigne was awarded the Batter of the Week. He had 15 hits in 26 at-bats for a .577 average, including six doubles, two home runs and 13 RBI. In addition, he scored 12 times and stole four bases along with a slugging percentage of 1.038 for Jackson.
Pelicans Win Series 3-1
It didnt take long for the Pelicans to get back in the winning column. Manager Bernie Carbo said it best before the game, "God will let us play to the best of our ability today. Today we are the best team here." For George Branch, that proved to be the case today. With the score tied 3-3 in the 8th inning, Branch hit a game winning three run homerun that hit high in the trees over the left center field wall. The Pelicans wound up winning 7-5.
Pensacola's pitching was able to hold the Dillas scoreless for seven innings. Starter, Santos Hernandez pitched six scoreless innings, gave up five hits and struck out five batters. Amarillo tied the game in the 8th inning. Jimmy Gregg came on to pitch with two outs and two runners on base. Gregg gave up three consecutive hits to tie the game at 3-3.
Larry Bethea doubled to start off the Pelicans half of the 8th. Josey Shannon was able to hit a groundball to second base, moving Bethea to third. Mike Rodriguez was then intentionally walked to put runners on the corners. Branch then hit a 2-2 curve ball into the tree branches to give the Pelicans the lead. Heath Kelly then singled and later scored on an Andy Wilson single, making the score 7-3.
The Dillas were able to scrape two runs in the 9th but Gregg was able to hold off the Amarillo hitters to get his third win of the year, improving to (3-0). With the win, Pensacola improves to 22-15. June has been a great month for Pensacola winning 11 of the 12 games played.
