San Angelo Colts News Release

San Angelo, TX- The San Angelo Colts have proven that they can beat any team on any given night. Take the last series, against the storied Edinburg Roadrunners, they took 3 or 4 from the Runners, and did it with good pitching, solid defense, and timely hitting. As good as that team looked, that same team can sometimes be unrecognizable, even to those who know it best. The Colts defense tonight coughed up 4 errors in the opening game against Coastal Bend. Combine that with the dominating performance by 40 year old Mike Smith, and you've got the idea of tonight's 8-2 loss for San Angelo. At one time, the Aviators starter Smith had retired 10 straight and through 6 innings, had allowed just 2 hits. Smith would finish the night 7 2/3 innings pitched, allowing just one earned run on 5 hits. The Colts would get 2 runs in the 8th, both unearned, but it would be too little too late. There were a few positives for the Colts, the largest of which was Eddie Gerald's 3-4 night, including his 5th homer of the season. The start made by Dave Therneau was quite impressive as Therneau could have easily carried a shutout into the 7th inning. It was the 7th though that led to the Colt's undoing, as with 2 men on, Bryan Loeb showed bunt, pulled back and delivered a bases clearing 2 run triple. That would be the game breaker for the Aviators as they take game one tonight by a final of 8-3
